Under the Roses Lenormand - classical system in sepia tones
Lenormand is about combinations. Two cards side by side tell more than one card alone. This deck follows that logic and does so with clear imagery in warm brown tones.
Under the Roses Lenormand is designed by Katrina Hill and her mother Kendra Hurteau. It contains the 36 classical cards, supplemented with four extra versions of the Child, the Gentleman and the Lady. That choice is practical: not every question fits with one fixed image of a person.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations are digitally drawn in sepia, with a style reminiscent of nineteenth-century prints. Each symbol is recognizable and easy to place. The Snake is a snake, the Flowers are flowers, the Letter is a letter.
That sounds simple, but precisely that clarity makes the deck usable. There is no searching for what an image might mean. The illustrations do what they need to do: support the system.
The matte finish prevents the cards from reflecting during readings. The format is 57 x 89 mm, slightly smaller than standard playing cards. That makes extensive spreads like the Grand Tableau more manageable.
The extra person cards
In addition to the standard Gentleman, Lady and Child, this deck contains alternative versions of those cards. One Lady is older, the other younger. One Gentleman has a beard, the other does not. The Child appears at different ages.
That gives room to adapt the deck to the person you are reading for. In practice, you choose before a reading which version you use and set the other cards aside.
Lay out the alternative cards next to each other and choose the image that best fits the querent. That choice does not have to be fixed; you can switch per reading.
The guidebook
The booklet counts 60 pages and is in English. For each card there are keywords and a brief explanation. It also describes different reading methods, including the Grand Tableau.
The tone is direct and practical. No long stories about symbolism, but concrete instructions for use. That fits Lenormand, where the emphasis is on what cards mean together, not on what one card does on its own.

Do I always have to use the extra cards?
No. You choose before a reading which version of the Child, the Gentleman and the Lady you use. The other cards stay in the box.
Is this deck suitable if you have never worked with Lenormand?
Yes. The symbols are clear, the guidebook explains the main reading methods, and the cards follow the classical system without deviations.
