Urban Crow Oracle - digital collages of city crows
Crows are everywhere in the city, but most people stop noticing them. MJ Cullinane does not. She photographs them, places them in digital collages and turns them into oracle cards that do exactly what crows do well: observe sharply and switch fast.
The deck consists of 54 cards and a compact booklet. The visual language is urban and businesslike, rendered in grey, black and yellow. No romantic nature scenes, but crows between bricks, streetlights and asphalt.
What you see on the cards
Each card is a digital collage in which a crow or a group of crows takes centre stage. The backgrounds are urban: rooftops, bridges, park benches, pavements. The colour scheme is consistently grey and black with yellow accents, which gives the images a graphic sharpness.
The cards have short, concrete titles. No abstract concepts, but observations you can link directly to behaviour: how crows forage, how they organise as a group, how they fend off attacks or avoid them altogether.
The booklet describes the meaning of each card and tells how Cullinane assembled the images. No elaborate philosophy, but context that helps with reading.
