Weird Weavings Rune Yule Deck - hand-painted runes with Eastern European folklore
The Elder Futhark consists of 24 symbols. You usually see them carved into stone or wood, sometimes printed on plain backgrounds. This deck works differently.
Faina Lorah paints each rune into a setting filled with patterns, figures and colours drawn from Eastern European folk art. The result feels both organic and narrative. Not minimal rune symbols, but cards that show you something about the energy behind the sign.
What you see on the cards
The illustrations are painted by hand. Red and gold patterns recur, often combined with soft shades of blue and green. Feminine figures appear regularly, sometimes as weavers, sometimes as bearers of objects or symbols.
Each card image tells a story around the rune. That makes interpretation more intuitive than with traditional rune sets, where you often see only the symbol. Here you get context: what does this rune do, what does it stand for, how does it feel.
The cards are printed on glossy 350-GSM cardstock. That gives the colours extra depth and makes the deck sturdy enough for daily use.
How this deck works with Wyrd
Wyrd is the Old Norse term for fate, but not as something fixed. It is a web of threads being woven constantly. Lorah uses this idea as the foundation for the deck.
The 60-page guidebook explains for each card how the rune relates to that web. No fixed answers, but starting points to see which threads you can influence. The text is clear and practical, without excessive esoteric language.
Draw a card when you feel stuck. Not to know what to do, but to see which part of the situation is movable.
Who this deck works for
You do not need to know the Elder Futhark by heart. The imagery and guidebook give enough information to start immediately. At the same time, the deck offers enough depth for those already working with runes and looking for a more visually rich approach.
The feminine perspective is deliberately present. That makes the deck suitable for those drawn to archetypes like the Norns, or to the idea of weaving and creating as spiritual action.
About Faina Lorah
Faina Lorah paints and writes. Her work centres on folklore, mythology and the place where both meet in contemporary spirituality. Her hand-painted style is recognizable through the combination of traditional patterns and soft, natural colour transitions.
For Weird Weavings she has drawn from Eastern European traditions that she connects with Norse rune symbolism. It is not a reconstruction of a historical style, but a contemporary interpretation.

Questions we often get
How does this deck differ from a traditional rune set?
Traditional rune sets usually consist of stones or wooden discs with only the rune symbol on them. Weird Weavings gives each rune a full illustration with context, figures and patterns. That makes interpretation more visual and layered.
Can I use this deck if I have never worked with runes before?
Yes. The guidebook explains each rune and the imagery gives you starting points to work intuitively. Prior knowledge is not required.
