Call of the Morrigan Oracle - Celtic oracle in five suits for ritual and reading
This is not a soft, pastel oracle. The Morrigan is the Irish goddess of war, sovereignty, and transformation, and the cards know it. The illustrations are raw and expressive, with a style that reviewers compare to the work of Irish illustrator Harry Clarke and artist Jim Fitzpatrick.
The deck was created by Stephanie Woodfield and Karen Storminger, two of the three priestesses behind this project. Storminger drew all the cards. Woodfield wrote the guidebook alongside Storminger. Published by Llewellyn Publications in January 2025.
What you see on the cards
The 45 cards are vertically oriented and divided into five suits: Guises of the Morrigan, Otherworldly Guides, Spirits of the Land, Outer Worlds, and Inner Worlds. Each suit has its own focus. The first explores the Morrigan as shapeshifter, sovereign, sorceress, and individual goddess. The second moves through the Celtic Otherworld, populated by gods, faery folk, and magical treasures.
Spirits of the Land is notably concrete: the cards depict sacred sites in Ireland that still exist today and carry those ancient stories in the landscape itself. The remaining two suits address external influences beyond your control, and the inner world of emotions, thoughts, and inner demons.
More than a reading deck
The creators designed these cards explicitly for use in spell work, rituals, and devotional practice, not only for daily card pulls. The guidebook includes a suggested reading list, signalling that the text is intended as a foundation to build on, not a closed system.
The guidebook is horizontally formatted and extensive. Its black-and-white illustrations follow the same style as the cards. Anyone unfamiliar with Celtic mythology will find enough background here to understand the cards and their context.
The five suits also work independently. The Guises of the Morrigan suit alone offers a complete framework for working with the Morrigan as a standalone practice.

Questions we often get
Is the guidebook accessible if you know nothing about Celtic mythology?
Yes. The guidebook explains the background of the Morrigan and each suit with enough context to start from scratch. A suggested reading list points the way for those who want to go further.
Are the cards only for readings, or also for ritual use?
The creators designed the deck explicitly for spell work, rituals, and devotional practice alongside readings. The guidebook covers both uses.
