Circe Tarot - mythological tarot with expressive scenes by Visintin
Circe is the sorceress from the Odyssey who turns men into animals, lives on an island among herbs and wild beasts, and answers to no one. She is not a victim and not a saint. She is powerful, independent and feared. That makes her an unusual centre for a tarot deck.
Italian illustrator and comics artist Fabio Visintin places her at the heart of this 78-card deck as a symbol of transformation and inner strength. The cards follow the classic division into Major and Minor Arcana.
What you see on the cards
Visintin works with warm, muted colours and compositions that tell a story immediately. The figures are human and emotional, sometimes enigmatic. There is movement in the images, as if you step into a scene mid-action. The visual language is expressive without feeling crowded.
Structure and symbolism follow the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition. Card names are familiar, and the Minor Arcana are fully illustrated. But Visintin gives each image his own turn through the mythological angle: the High Priestess, the Magician, the Tower all feel both recognisable and different.
Practical in the hand
The cards measure 70 x 118 mm, a compact size that makes shuffling comfortable. The matte finish on sturdy card stock gives good grip. The magnetic box closes firmly and protects the deck well.
The included guidebook is multilingual and contains at least English, German and French. The cards themselves carry no text.
On the imagery and symbolism
You do not need to know the myth of Circe to read these cards. The images stand on their own. Knowledge of Greek mythology does add a layer: you recognise the stories behind the figures and scenes, which gives readings more context.
The theme of transformation runs as a constant thread through the deck. Not change as something that happens to you, but change that is already in motion. That gives this deck a coherent identity.
Draw a card and ask yourself: what transformation is already under way here? Not what needs to change, but what is already shifting.
