Ethereal Visions Tarot: Luna Edition - Art Nouveau with silver foil and inclusive imagery
Not every tarot deck dares to leave the Rider-Waite structure intact while giving it a completely new face. This one does. Matt Hughes redrew all 78 cards in the style of early twentieth-century Art Nouveau, with flowing lines, floral motifs and refined compositions.
The Luna Edition is a revised version of the original Ethereal Visions deck. Where the first edition used gold foil, this one chooses iridescent silver. That gives the cards a cooler, more reflective quality. The illustrations have also been revised: more diversity in skin tone, body type and gender expression. Two extra Major Arcana cards are included, though the publisher does not specify which or why.
What you see on the cards
The drawing style recalls Mucha and Klimt, with decorative borders, symmetrical patterns and close attention to clothing and hair. Each figure is surrounded by symbols that support the meaning, without making the card feel crowded.
The silver foil is applied to details such as stars, jewellery, weapons and flowers. It catches the light but does not interfere with readability. The lamination is smooth and matte, which means the cards shuffle easily and do not hold fingerprints.
The guidebook runs to 140 pages in full colour. Each card receives a description with symbolism, upright and reversed meanings, and short reflection questions. There are no spreads included.
How it relates to Rider-Waite
The structure is classic: 22 Major Arcana, 56 Minor Arcana divided across four suits. The symbolism stays faithful to Rider-Waite, which means you can read the cards without learning everything from scratch. The Eight of Swords still shows a blindfolded figure, the Three of Cups still depicts three people celebrating together.
What is different is the design. Where Rider-Waite can be rough and direct, Hughes chooses elegance and ornament. That makes the deck calmer in the hand, but also less confrontational.
Lay the cards next to a classic Rider-Waite deck and you see the difference in mood immediately. This deck chooses beauty, not sharp reality.
Who this deck is designed for
The publisher calls this deck suitable for beginners, and there is truth in that: the symbolism is recognisable, the guidebook is thorough, and the cards are sturdy enough for daily use. But the design does ask something of you. If you have never seen tarot cards before, you will need time to adjust to how much is happening on each card.
Many buyers choose this deck for the finish. The silver foil, the matte lamination and the format (70 × 120 mm, standard tarot size) make it a deck that feels good in the hand and looks well cared for.
