Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot - dreamscapes on the edge of light and shadow
Some tarot cards offer reassurance. This deck does not. The figures in the Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot are drawn as if from a children's book, but what they do and what happens around them does not quite add up. That tension is what makes the deck strong.
Nicoletta Ceccoli is an Italian artist whose work hangs in galleries worldwide. Her style is recognisable: soft pastel tones, large eyes, small bodies. But beneath that apparent innocence sits something that gnaws. Fragility and strength on one and the same card.
What you see on the cards
The images are fully hand-painted in acrylic and digitally finished. The colours are muted pinks, blues and beiges, with plenty of white. Backgrounds are often empty or minimally filled in, so the figures take all the attention.
The Major Arcana follow the classic RWS structure, but Ceccoli draws her own interpretations. The Magician is a girl with a goldfish in a bowl. The Star floats in a bubble. The Tower shows a porcelain doll falling from a house. The Minor Arcana are fully illustrated, no pip cards.
This is not a starter deck if you are working with tarot for the first time and need clear, recognisable symbolism. The images are associative, not instructive. They ask for interpretation, not a fixed meaning to read off.
How this deck works in practice
The Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot works best if you let the cards settle for a few moments before you look up the meaning. First look at the mood, the posture of the figure, what is missing or just too present. The cards evoke emotions that are not immediately nameable, and that is precisely what they are good at.
Many people use this deck for shadow work or for questions where logic does not reach far enough. The images have something that goes straight to the subconscious, without detour.
Draw a card and describe aloud what you see, without looking at the meaning. What is the figure doing? Where is she looking? What might just have happened? That first impression is often the most accurate.
About Nicoletta Ceccoli
Nicoletta Ceccoli was born in San Marino and has gained international recognition with her surrealist paintings. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in New York, Tokyo and London. She illustrated children's books, but her style grew increasingly towards a border where childlike aesthetics and adult themes meet.
For this tarot deck she translated the 78 classic archetypes into her own visual language. The result is a deck that is both art object and working tool.

Questions we often get
Are the cards suitable for beginners?
The deck follows the traditional RWS structure, so technically yes. But the visual language is associative and asks for an active, intuitive approach. If you prefer concrete symbolism that you can learn step by step, a classic Rider-Waite deck is probably a better start.
How does this deck differ from other artistic tarot cards?
The combination of childlike aesthetics and adult themes. Many artistic decks choose either dark, gothic atmospheres or light, optimistic images. Ceccoli does both at once, and that makes the cards confronting and comforting in one movement.
