Nocturnal Garden Lenormand - hand-painted deck in nocturnal atmosphere
Most Lenormand cards take place in daylight. This deck chooses the opposite. Faina Lorah places the classic 36 symbols in a garden after sunset, where everything hidden by day becomes visible.
This is a full Lenormand system with the traditional symbols, but set in a visual world where moon, stars and shadow take centre stage. That does not make it more mysterious or profound than any other Lenormand deck, but it does give the cards a different mood.
What you see on the cards
Lorah painted the cards by hand. The colours are dark, with plenty of blue, purple and black, and golden accents that represent moonlight. The symbolism remains classic Lenormand: the rider, the key, the ring, the tree.
The finish is matte with gilded edges. The cardstock is 350 gsm, which is sturdier than standard oracle cards. The cards are poker-size, which means they shuffle well and are not too large for daily use.
The storage box is lined with velvet, which you notice immediately when you open it. The whole thing feels considered.
Who this works for
This deck uses the classic 36-card Lenormand system. If you already know that system, you can start right away. If you are new to it, there is an English guidebook with basic explanations and symbol meanings.
The nocturnal atmosphere asks for a different way of looking than a bright, cheerful deck. Some people find that calming. Others prefer clear daylight. That is a matter of preference.
Draw a card just before dark and see whether the night-time imagery stirs something different than it would during the day.
About Faina Lorah
Faina Lorah is an artist who focuses on symbolism and folklore. Her work is known for the way she uses darkness, not as something oppressive, but as a space in which things become visible that would otherwise disappear.
She combines traditional symbols with a contemporary painting style, which you can see in this deck in the balance between recognisable Lenormand icons and a personal visual language.

Questions we often get
Does the symbolism differ from the traditional Lenormand system?
No. The 36 cards follow the standard Lenormand system. What is different is the imagery: nocturnal instead of daylight. The meanings remain the same.
Is the guidebook detailed enough for beginners?
The guidebook gives the basic meaning for each card and a few example combinations. That is enough to get started, but anyone wanting to really learn the Lenormand system will benefit from a separate handbook.
