Santa Muerte Tarot - mini - Mexican death symbolism in pocket size
A mini edition of a tarot deck is usually a compromise. Smaller, handier, but with less detail. With this deck that is only half true.
The Santa Muerte Tarot Mini is compact, but the images by Fabio Listrani lose little power. The colours stay bright, the symbolism sharp. The deck is based on the Mexican figure of Santa Muerte and the iconography of Día de los Muertos. Skulls, offerings, flowers and saints come together in a style that feels both folkloric and modern.
What you see on the cards
Listrani draws with strong colour and contrast. Purple, red, gold and turquoise dominate. The figures are large in the frame, which keeps the compositions readable even at a small size.
The cards follow the Rider-Waite structure but translate it into the context of Mexican death culture. The Hanged Man becomes an offering, Death a festive procession, The Tower a collapsing altar. Each image carries a story, and those stories are closer to ceremony than to fear.
Keywords are printed on the cards themselves, in English. That makes the deck more accessible if you are just starting out or if you want to read quickly without consulting the guidebook every time.
How the deck behaves
At 57 x 89 mm these are small cards. They fit in a coat pocket, a handbag, a glove compartment. Shuffling is smooth, even with smaller hands. The glossy finish makes the colours extra vivid but can reflect light at certain angles.
The size makes this deck suitable if you want to draw a card on the go or if you regularly do small spreads. For larger layouts with many cards side by side, readability may decrease.
Draw a card and place it on your desk or bedside table. The images are strong enough to stay present all day without needing to pick up the deck again.

Questions we often get
Are the illustrations identical to the standard edition?
Yes. The mini cards contain exactly the same images as the larger version. Only the size has been adjusted.
Is this a suitable starter deck?
That depends on your interests. The structure is classic and the keywords help with learning. The symbolism is specific and asks for some affinity with Mexican death culture. If that imagery speaks to you, this is a strong choice.
