The Prisma Visions Tarot - panoramic storylines in four suits
Lay out the Minor Arcana of one suit side by side and you see how figures and landscapes physically move through the cards. That is the premise of The Prisma Visions Tarot. Not separate images, but one continuous painting that tells the journey from ace to ten.
James R. Eads works with impressionist brushstrokes, rich textures and a use of colour that recalls light breaking through a prism. The Minor Arcana have no border, which allows them to flow seamlessly into each other. The Major Arcana, in contrast, are framed in a classic border that puts the focus on each individual archetype.
What you see on the cards
The imagery is modern, surrealist and full of movement. Eads does not draw realistically. Instead he lets colours and forms bleed into each other as if you are looking through a window into a dream. Each suit has its own atmosphere and colour palette that follows the growth within that suit.
The cards are printed on heavy cardstock with a matte UV coating. The edges are mirrored silver, which not only protects the cards during shuffling but also draws a visual line between card and surroundings. The format is 70 x 120 mm, slightly narrower than standard tarot.
The mystery card, the 79th card in this deck, adds an extra archetype that falls outside the traditional structure. Which card that is varies per edition.
How this deck works in practice
The panoramic structure invites you to lay out cards differently than you might be used to. Instead of pulling a single card, you can spread out an entire suit and literally see how a story unfolds. This works especially well in readings that deal with time or process.
The symbolism is based on Rider-Waite, but reinterpreted through the lens of Eads. The images are expressive enough to work with intuitively, yet the structure remains recognizable for those who know the classic meanings.
Lay out the swords from ace to ten in a row and notice how the light changes as you read through the suit. That gives you an immediate sense of the emotional charge of each number.

Questions we often get
How does this deck differ from a classic Rider-Waite deck?
The symbolism is based on Rider-Waite, but the imagery is impressionist and surrealist. The Minor Arcana form continuous panoramas, which means you can lay them out and read them differently than in a traditional deck.
Are the cards sturdy enough for daily use?
Yes. The cardstock is heavy, the matte coating protects against fingerprints, and the silver edges reduce wear at the sides. The deck is made to be shuffled often.
