The Time Changer's Tarot - Waite-Smith tarot focused on community and world
Most tarot sets are about you. This one is also about what you do with what you see. Caitlín Matthews wrote The Time Changer's Tarot from the premise that personal insight only fully lands when it is connected to what is happening around you: in your neighbourhood, in society, on the planet.
It is a complete 78-card Waite-Smith set with a 360-page guidebook. The cards are illustrated by M.M. Meleen, known for the Tabula Mundi Tarot and the Rosetta Tarot. Publisher REDFeather released the set in October 2023.
Three levels for every card
What sets this deck apart is the structure of the guidebook. Every card is addressed on three levels: yourself, your community, and the world. That might sound like a formula, but in practice it functions as a genuine shift in perspective. A card you would normally read as purely personal suddenly carries a wider frame of reference.
Each card entry closes with concrete questions designed to prompt action or group reflection. That makes the set usable beyond the classic one-to-one reading.
What the cards look like
M.M. Meleen preserves the familiar compositions of Pamela Colman Smith but fills them with contemporary details: modern attributes, visual references to time and interconnection. The colour palette is strong, the linework raw and direct. This is not a soft reimagining.
The court cards, traditionally Page, Knight, Queen and King, are not presented as fixed personality types. Matthews treats them as roles or stages of maturity, independent of gender or hierarchy. That is a deliberate choice and the guidebook explains it directly.
Who this deck works for
This is a deck for readers already familiar with the Waite-Smith tradition who want to do something with it that goes beyond personal advice. The guidebook assumes a basic knowledge of the cards and builds on that from the start.
The three-part structure for each card also suits group settings: working groups, community projects, or sessions where collective reflection on a shared question is the goal. The guidebook includes targeted questions per card for exactly that purpose.

Is this a reproduction of the classic Waite-Smith tarot or a new interpretation?
It is a new interpretation. M.M. Meleen used the familiar Pamela Colman Smith compositions as a foundation, but the illustrations are newly drawn with contemporary symbolism. The cards do not look like a standard RWS reproduction.
