Taste Buddies Tarot - kawaii tarot with no dark imagery
Most tarot decks include cards that can feel confrontational: the Tower, Death, the Ten of Swords. M. Scorch took a different approach and left all of that out. The Taste Buddies Tarot contains 78 cards where every image carries a positive message, wrapped in a kawaii aesthetic with food as the central theme.
The deck follows the standard tarot structure of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, but the suits have new names: Chopsticks for the traditional Wands, Bowls for Cups, Straws for Swords and Plates for Pentacles. Several Major Arcana cards have also been given new names. Anyone familiar with classic tarot will recognise the underlying structure straight away.
What you see on the cards
The kawaii aesthetic means soft, rounded figures in cheerful colours, depicted as desserts, festive snacks, comfort food and special culinary moments. The imagery is not random: each dish connects meaningfully to the traditional card interpretation. Queens appear alongside nourishing dishes, while the Chopsticks cards illustrate skills still being learned.
The deck fits in a metal tin, which makes it compact and sturdy. The cards measure 60 x 89 mm, a standard size that sits comfortably in the hand.
The guidebook and the spreads
The 68-page guidebook includes keywords and descriptions for all 78 cards, alongside meal-themed spreads developed specifically for this deck. One example is a three-card draw as starter, main course and dessert for a daily reading.
The positive framing of every card description is a deliberate choice. It noticeably changes the reading experience: no card ever reads as threatening or heavy.
Draw three cards as starter, main and dessert and use the combination as a daily 'menu' reading. The guidebook explains how it works.
