Universal Waite Pocket Tarot Deck - Rider-Waite in pocket size with warmer colours
This is not a new system. It is the Rider-Waite deck, recoloured and reduced to pocket size. The drawings by Pamela Colman Smith remain unchanged, but Mary Hanson-Roberts has given them softer colouring.
The symbolism is therefore exactly the same as in any classic Rider-Waite deck. Any tarot book that refers to that system works just as well with this deck. The size is 57 x 89 mm, small enough to carry with you.
What is different from the original Rider-Waite
The colouring is warmer and brighter. Where the original 1909 version looks fairly pale and flat, this version has more depth in the tones. That makes the cards calmer to look at for many readers.
The symbolism itself has not been changed. What you see on the cards is what Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith designed at the time. The difference lies only in the colour palette.
How it feels in the hand
The cards are small. That works well if you have limited space or are travelling. The cardstock is sturdy and has a smooth coating, the corners are rounded. They shuffle easily and stay usable for a long time.
The guidebook is compact, 36 pages. You will find the basic meanings for each card, not extensive stories. Enough to get started if you are new to this system.
If you combine this deck with a book on the Rider-Waite system, you do not need a thick guidebook. The cards follow the standard structure described everywhere.

Questions we often get
Is this a different system from the regular Rider-Waite deck?
No. The symbolism, order and structure are identical. Only the colours are different. Any book on Rider-Waite works with this deck.
Are the cards not too small to work with comfortably?
That depends on your preference. If you are used to large cards, this format will feel compact. If you have small hands or limited space, this is actually handy. The cardstock is sturdy enough not to feel fragile.
